Copenhagen - Outgames Gets the Gold.....DKK 1.2 Million

• The board of directors of the Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association (GLISA) is proud to announce that the Copenhagen 2009 Outgames has declared a profit of DKK 1.2 Million (164,000 Euro, $234,000 USD)
This financial success continues the profitability of the Continental Outgames held in Melbourne, Australia and Calgary Canada.
“The profits from the CHP2009 Outgames will be allocated to charitable GLBT sports, cultural, and human rights related purposes in accordance with the articles of the association”, stated Per Hermansen CHP2009 Finance Director.
“What I personally liked about the Outgames-event in Copenhagen was, that we were able to create a high class quality sports, culture and human right event of solid value for both the city, the LGBT community - local as well internationally - and for all the participants and guests.” Stated Uffe Elbaek CEO of CHP2009 , he continued “And I think, that the main reason for this success was, that all the people involved - from the City hall to the grass roots - kept their heads calm and their hearts open all the way through.”
“The CHP2009 organizing committee faced with the worst recession the world economies experienced in many years, made the tough decisions, handled the criticism and yet delivered a profitable, phenomenal life experience for the athletes, and all the participants.” stated Wessel van Kampen, male co President of GLISA International
”Sometimes we forget that the Outgames is one of the few opportunities some people have to openly share their skills in athletics, and openly share their views on human rights while having fun, and making new friends, being part of a great experience.” Julia Applegate, GLISA’s female co-President stated. But the CHP2009 organizing committee also proved that it can be a profitable event, if effectively managed.
While the profits from the CHP2009 Outgames will benefit the local GLBT organizations, the city of Copenhagen will benefit from the OutGames for years to come. A recent survey conducted by Wonderful Copenhagen reflects: “The analysis show that the over 5500 participants and 5000 spectators at the World Outgames 2009 have given Copenhagen additional income in excess of DKK 78 million (10 Mill Euro, $15 Million UDS).” Additional information on the survey is available upon request.
