March 2, 2009 – The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, today announced three new Board Members: Roxanne Jones and Will Trinkle of New York City as well as Marissa Nance of Los Angeles.

"It is more important than ever that we advocate for fair, accurate and inclusive stories about our lives that spotlight diverse voices and the common ground we all share," said Neil G. Giuliano, President of GLAAD. "With the expertise of the many stakeholders who support our work, especially those serving on the National Board of Directors, we will continue bringing inclusive coverage of LGBT people to new communities."

Roxanne Jones was one of the founding editors of ESPN The Magazine, which has earned three General Excellence Awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors and is regarded as the leading sports and lifestyle read for a new generation of sports aficionados. Jones was responsible for developing ESPN's lifestyle and culture coverage and was nominated for an Emmy for The Life, a program on the nexus of sports and pop culture. She helped to create Cold Pizza, ESPN's first morning sports and entertainment program. Jones will be releasing her first book "Say it Loud, an Illustrated History of the Black Athlete" later this year. She is currently on the board of trustees at Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College and is an at-large Board Member of Mocada Art Museum in Brooklyn and the Labryinth Theater Company. She previously served on the board of The National Association of Black Journalists, where she was the first woman to chair the Sports Task Force. Jones earned her executive M.B.A. at UCLA's Anderson School and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.

Will Trinkle is CEO of C.W. Francis and Son, Inc., a real estate development and management firm specializing in industrial, commercial and residential projects. He currently is a member of the Empire State Pride Agenda Political Board and has served as Co-Chair of their Foundation Board. Trinkle is also on the board of trustees at Hollins University and is a Commissioner on the Virginia Commission for the Arts. He received his B.A. from The University of Virginia and currently resides with his partner in New York City and Roanoke, Virginia.

Marissa Nance is the Director of Media Production at OMD USA, a position she has held for over a decade. OMD, a division of Omnicom Media Group, is among the largest and most respected media & marketing agencies in the world. In her role, Nance helps lead the agency's development, negotiations and execution of entertainment media strategies for an impressive list of global clients. These efforts have led to successful client integration in iconic television and film content. Marissa attended Howard University in Washington DC, where she studied television and film. Ms. Nance currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband.

"We welcome our new Board Members, who share our commitment to strengthening GLAAD's culture changing work," said Yvette Burton, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors.

"The diverse ranges of professional experiences that our new colleagues bring are incredible assets as we continue our programmatic outreach and advance GLAAD through implementation of our Strategic Plan," said fellow Co-Chair Laurie Perper.
