• Ben Patrick Johnson is quietly becoming the most unlikely voice for the LGBT community on Gay Marriage, and Religion.
You’ve heard his voice. If you watch television, listen to radio or go to the movies you have heard Ben Patrick Johnson.
Ben is one of the top voice over announcers in Hollywood. He’s the guy who says, “In a world . . . “ for major motion pictures like Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, Borat, and just about every Adam Sandler movie you can name. His voice is also heard on all major television networks promoting shows like Cold Case and House. His voice is literally heard hundreds of times every day by millions of Americans.
And now, he’s using it for us.
Ben Patrick Johnson is quietly becoming the most unlikely voice for the LGBT community on Gay Marriage, and Religion.
Yes, he’s the super hunky guy – muscles from head to toe and that killer smile - you’ve seen on the covers and in the pages of countless LGBT publications.
Yes, he’s the author of three previously published novels – all set in gay Los Angeles chronicling the ups and downs and ins and outs of gay life.
So, it came as a shock for his long-time fans to learn Ben’s new book, the compelling novel, If the Rains Don’t Cleanse (Havenhurst Books, Sept. 2009), is set in 1950s Congo and follows a woman – a Christian missionary at that. The novel is based on the true story of his own mother, Ava Dale Johnson and was written to honor his parents.
But there’s more.
These days, his shirt stays on and his wallet has come out for causes that mean the most to our community.
Through the Ben Patrick Johnson Foundation, Ben has quietly become the most unlikely voice for issues around gays and faith, elder housing and gay marriage.
Rea Carey, Executive Director, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force asserts, “Ben Patrick Johnson is ready to engage and inspire others.”
Geoff Kors, Executive Director, Equality California says, "I applaud Ben Patrick Johnson's work in helping increase support from faith communities for the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. His work is instrumental in helping ensure a true state of equality for all Californians."
Ben is also one of the biggest financial supporters of Institute for Welcoming Resources (IWR), an ecumenical organization that promotes the welcoming church movement. Reverend Rebecca Voelkel, IWR, says, “Our pro-LGBT movement stands at a critical crossroads with pressing challenges. Ben Patrick Johnson has stepped up.”
